Work Less and Love More: How Taking a Day Off Can Change Your Life (and Wedding Stats Prove It!)

by | Jun 28, 2023

As a ex-wedding pro, I understand the constant demands and pressure to always be available.

But let’s face it. That’s impossible.

My life transformed when I committed to taking time off.

I started prioritizing regular breaks throughout the day that allowed me to recharge, restore my creativity, and improve my overall well-being. Now, I bring a renewed sense of passion and energy to my work, creating even more magical experiences for couples. Remember, taking time off isn’t a luxury; it’s an essential investment in yourself and your ability to thrive in the wedding industry.

I’ve got a suggestion for you that might seem a little out there at first, but hear me out: how about taking a whole day off every month?

I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, “Amanda, are you crazy? How can I possibly do that?”

But trust me, YOU HAVE THE TIME! Andddd—it’s not just possible, it’s absolutely necessary for your well-being and energy. And guess what?

The wedding industry statistics back it up!

Let’s get into it.

No Work, No Stress: The Magic of Scheduling a ‘Me’ Day

As a dietitian and coach, I’ve had the chance to talk to many wedding pros who are constantly juggling work and personal responsibilities.

And let me tell you, I’ve seen firsthand how overwhelming it can be.

That’s why I’m a big advocate for scheduling a day off every month, a day where you completely disconnect from work and all your other responsibilities, and just focus on yourself and the things that bring you joy.

I know it might sound a bit scary or even selfish, but trust me, it’s not. In fact, taking a day off can do wonders for your overall well-being and make you even more productive in the long run.

When you push yourself without taking breaks, you run the risk of burning out and becoming less efficient.

On the flip side, giving yourself a day to rest and recharge can actually help you come back to work with a fresh mindset, renewed energy, and sharper focus.

So go ahead, treat yourself to that mani/pedi, book a massage, or go on that solo movie date you’ve been craving. Take a hike, dive into that book you’ve been dying to read, or simply do absolutely nothing.

The important thing is that you prioritize yourself and do something that brings you joy.

Why You Should Prioritize Self-Care, According to Wedding Industry Statistics

But don’t just take my word for it.

Let’s look at some wedding industry statistics that prove the importance of self-care and work-life balance for wedding pros.

According to a survey by the Knot, wedding planners work an average of 16 hours a day, surviving on only 5.5 hours of sleep per night.

Now, that’s an exhausting schedule that can really take a toll on your physical and mental health.

Another survey by the WeddingWire found that a whopping 67% of wedding professionals experience burnout. And let’s be real, burnout can lead to decreased productivity, lower job satisfaction, and even health problems.

That’s why it’s absolutely crucial to prioritize self-care and work-life balance in the wedding industry.

By taking the time to care for yourself and set healthy boundaries, you can avoid burnout and truly enjoy both your work and personal life.

So, I challenge you to carve out a day off every month and make self-care a priority in your life.

Remember, time is our most valuable asset, and we all deserve to spend it doing things we love.

If you find it challenging to prioritize your time and set those healthy boundaries, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here to help!

Together, we can ensure you’re living your best life, both personally and professionally.
